STORYBOARDING
The storyboard, is many times the first step in the process to build, explore or animate computer graphic imagery. Once a projects problems have been defined, we can turn to basic conceptualization with paper and pencil. A storyboard is created from a sheet of paper with multiple panels representing the presentation screen. Each panel has a sketch which shows each element needed at that point in time. The panels are arranged to show the sequence of the program and are accompanied by text which describes the action and refers to the dialogue. The storyboard becomes the 'blueprint', or plan by which all design, scheduling, and most important, budget are determined.

This 'blueprint' can free us from the confines of the technology so we can put our creativity directly to the task. Storyboarding allows us to explore a variety of approaches to the problem. It also serves to communicate the proposed program to all those involved and allows for critical feedback.

The storyboard then serves the actual production to test the concepts and work out the timing and the bugs. However, the most important issues served by the storyboard, are planning, scheduling and most of all, the budget. From bid to final invoice, time is money in the computer business and any tool which minimizes the time, maximizes the budget. This visual planning tool serves both us and the client. Good storyboarding serves the demands of creative graphic production for TV, film, simulation, animation, and interactive or anything telling a story. Good storyboarding can be the key to a good production experience in a world ruled by the complexity of our computer technologies.
